Introduction
Parenting, or deeply caring for the next generation, is a profound stewardship accompanied by intense joy and immense anxiety. We quickly realize we cannot control our children’s choices, protect them from every hurt, or engineer their salvation. Intercessory prayer is therefore the greatest and most effective work a parent or mentor can do. This prayer entrusts the children in your life to their ultimate Father. It asks for their physical safety, character development, and above all, their spiritual awakening to the gospel. By consistently praying for your children, you lay a spiritual foundation for their lives and surrender your parental fears to the sovereign care of God.
The Prayer
Heavenly Father, I come to You today on behalf of the children You have entrusted to my care. I acknowledge that they belong to You first and that Your love for them surpasses my own. I ask that You would place a hedge of protection around them, keeping them safe from physical harm and shielding their minds from the toxic influences of this world. Draw their hearts to You at a young age; grant them an authentic, deeply rooted faith that will withstand the storms of life. Give them the courage to stand for truth, the compassion to love the marginalized, and the wisdom to make godly choices. Equip me to be an example of Your grace, helping me to parent with patience and discipline with love. May their lives bear abundant fruit for Your Kingdom. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
